Singapore Airlines’ A380 fleet will be grounded through November 2020. But when SIA’s A380s take flight on December 1st, they’ll be servicing Singapore to Osaka (KIX) flights SQ 618/619.
This actually isn’t the first time SIA has flown the A380 between SIN and KIX – this is an annual aircraft swap that SIA makes for the busy season. Still, given COVID and the poor outlook for the A380, it’s a nice surprise to see the A380 make this trip.
SIA operates three daily flights to KIX, but these routes are serviced by three class (business, PE, economy) A350s or 787s for most of the year. The addition of the A380 adds some first class inventory to the SIN to KIX route, and Singapore Saver award space is readily available starting for 70k miles each way. Sadly, seat maps for flights SQ 618/619 show that the flights will be operated by SIA’s older A380s, so this isn’t an opportunity to experience the airline’s new A380 suites. There does not appear to be any partner award space available for these flights either.
