American Airlines’ international first class product is not spectacular. Don’t expect a large suite, top-shelf liquor, or amazing food. But it is a serviceable product, particularly when prices are low.
Here’s a decent fare between Hong Kong (HKG) and Seattle (SEA) with a stopover in Dallas (DFW). The HKG to DFW leg is serviced by American’s 777-300ER, while the DFW to SEA leg is service by an A321. Total roundtrip pricing for this route comes in at around ~$3,400. You’ll get a lower price if you book on American’s Hong Kong site, and there may be some price fluctuations due to the exchange rate.
This rate is available from the end of September 2020 through April 2021. There’s a four-month maximum stopover in SEA.
This is a great flight for someone who needs a bunch of EQMs to get status. Here’s what you’ll earn:
- HKG to DFW (books in F): 16.2k miles roundtrip, or 48.6k EQMs
- DFW to SEA (books in I): 3.2k miles roundtrip, or 6.4k EQMs
- Total Roundtrip: 55k EQMs
Of course, the low price of this ticket means you won’t earn many award miles, but ~50k EQMs plus a first class international ticket for ~$3,400 isn’t a bad deal at all.
